Man charged in hit-and-run pedestrian accident

A 21-year-old New Jersey man faces multiple charges in relation to a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian that took place early on the morning of March 17. The incident took place near the Nechanic Inn on Woodfern Road. According to law enforcement officials, a pedestrian approached the man, who was in his pickup truck, with the intention of confronting him about his reckless driving. The driver of the pickup truck then hit the pedestrian with his truck as he was walking away. After striking the pedestrian, the suspect fled southbound.

When law enforcement officials arrived at the scene of the auto accident, they found the victim lying in the road. He had a broken hand, a fractured skull and internal injuries. Police discovered the driver near the intersection of Woodfern Road and LeHigh Road. After fleeing the scene, he had struck a guardrail and crashed. Charges filed against the driver include driving while intoxicated, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in serious bodily injury.

The victim in this accident could face many medical expenses due to his serious injuries, including bills related to surgery, hospitalization, medications, rehabilitation and other procedures. Regardless of the outcome of the criminal charges filed against the driver, the victim has the option to file a personal injury lawsuit against the suspect in civil court. A civil lawsuit may provide financial compensation for accident-related expenses.

Accidents such as this one may create pain and suffering, and expenses and lost wages related to the event may place a financial burden on the injured. A personal injury lawsuit may ease this burden and provide the victim with closure. Those who would like to learn more about their rights may contact a personal injury lawyer.
