3-car accident hospitalizes 4 in New Jersey

According to police, a July 19 accident involving three vehicles sent four people to hospitals. The crash happened at the Keansburg intersection of Main Street and Center Avenue at around 1:45 p.m.

Police reported that a 27-year-old man was driving south through the intersection when he ran a red light and collided with an eastbound vehicle, which in turn struck a northbound car waiting at the red light on Main Street.

A passenger in the first vehicle suffered injuries as a result of the car crash. The passenger, a 29-year-old woman, received treatment at a hospital for a broken arm, authorities said. Emergency crews had employed the Jaws of Life to extricate the woman from the wrecked vehicle before transporting her to Jersey Shore University Medical Center's trauma unit. Two occupants of the third vehicle, the 42-year-old driver and her 14-year-old son, also suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment, according to authorities.

The 27-year-old driver of the first vehicle received treatment at Bayshore Community Hospital and was released. Police cited him for reckless driving, failing to stop for a red light and careless driving.

If a preponderance of evidence in this case were to demonstrate that negligent driving was the primary cause of the accident, then the victims of the crash might be entitled to compensation. For, people who suffer damages as a result of an auto accident caused by another party's actionable behavior may pursue civil action against the at-fault party, seeking restitution for their damages.

If successful, accident victims might recover the cost of the medical treatment that they received for their injuries. The victims may also be reimbursed for lost wages if they were unable to work while they recuperated.
