New Jersey head-on collision leaves 3 dead, 1 injured

On Aug. 19 at 3:47 p.m. the Kolozski Road overpass on Business Route 33 in New Jersey was the site of a deadly three-car crash. Three people were killed in the accident, and one was transported to the Jersey Shore Medical Center. He remained there in critical condition at the time of reporting.

A Monmouth County prosecutor said that a 19-year-old man driving a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on Koslozski Road with his 20-year-old female passenger. The car passed over into the northbound lane and met head-on with a Honda Pilot SUV that was driven by a 50-year-old man. After the collision, the Honda became airborne and eventually dropped down on top of a Toyota Camry, driven by a 25-year-old man. The driver of the Camry was the sole survivor of the accident. However, he suffered what was described as an extremely critical head injury.

Any witnesses to the accident were encouraged by the Prosecutor's Office and Freehold Township Police to step forward and call in any helpful information. The Serious Collision Analysis Response Team was summoned to the site to ascertain the cause of the accident. Investigators were still in the process of trying to piece together how the crash occurred at the time of reporting.

Car accident fatalities often result in wrongful death claims. Such lawsuits may be filed by the dependents or family members of a deceased victim if they choose to seek compensation through civil court.. The damages recovered through a successful wrongful death lawsuit might include compensation for the lost financial support the plaintiffs expected to receive from the deceased as well as loss of companionship and funeral costs. Because wrongful death actions can become very complicated, it may be wise for a plaintiff to consult a legal professional. A lawyer could help a client develop a case that demonstrates a defendant's liability for the plaintiff's damages.
