Fatal car crash is fourth in 4 months

When a car accident occurs, investigators must work to understand the events of and leading up to the crash, often through crash reconstruction, to determine who was at fault.

A 34-year-old New Jersey man and father of four died in a car crash that occurred around 6 a.m. Oct. 11 on Route 46. According to police, this was the fourth accident that resulted in a fatality in four months in Mount Olive Township. The car crash came just one day after an increased police presence as part of New Jersey's "Put the Brakes on Fatalities" program, designed to help drivers understand ways to prevent fatal wrecks.

According to police, the man was driving east on Route 46, when he crossed over the center line and struck a van in a head-on collision. The man eventually stopped in a parking lot, and he was taken to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The 58-year-old driver of the van and his 45-year-old wife were taken to Morristown Medical Center. The woman reportedly had to be removed from the vehicle with the Jaw of Life, but her husband was treated for only minor injuries.

Car accident victims who are injured as a result of a distracted or negligent driving may be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses. This can still be true even in the event the at-fault driver is no longer living. It is important for victims and their families to understand their rights and options.
