Bernards car crash kills 2 women, injures 2 others

Many of the personal injury claims filed in the United States are due to car wrecks. Common causes of auto accidents include excessive speed, distracted driving and drunk driving. A car accident such as the following case is often a complex event requiring an investigation to determine all of its causes.

A 45-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman were killed in a car crash that also injured the older woman's 20-year-old son and 11-year-old son on Nov. 22 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Police report that the 20-year-old son was driving a Nissan Maxima on Route 78 West in Bernards when it veered off the road and crashed into two trees.

The woman's two sons were taken to Moorestown Medical Center, according to police. The 20-year-old son was listed in critical condition as of Nov. 25, while her 11-year-old son's condition was undisclosed due to his age.

The car veered off Route 78 West near Liberty Corner Road, tossing the two women from the car upon impact with the trees. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police report. The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and New Jersey State Police are currently investigating the accident to determine the cause.

A case like this may not prompt a personal injury claim because many of the people involved are family members. However, in other fatal accidents in which a passenger is killed, his or her family may choose to file a wrongful death claim to seek compensation from the driver if he or she negligently caused a crash. This can be a sensitive topic during such a difficult time, but losing a loved shouldn't also mean a family has to face financial hardship. A successful wrongful death claim can result in monetary compensation that can be put toward funeral expenses and other related costs.
