A hit-and-run accident that killed a woman in Camden County was caused by a driver who legally was not permitted to be behind the wheel of a car, according to authorities. On March 6, authorities released information uncovered after a New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles inquiry that was completed on the suspected driver during the auto accident investigation.
The accident occurred on the night of March 3 in Haddon Township on Black Horse Pike when the victim, a 67-year-old woman, was struck and killed. The male driver who struck her fled the scene, but he was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that the man had a long list of license suspensions, 58 of which occurred since 1980. His license was revoked in 1989, and authorities also reported that he had been previously charged with four DUIs.
No other information regarding the man or the investigation was immediately available, but authorities may be still investigating so they can build as strong a case as possible against the man. The victim’s family or partner may be consumed with grief, but they may also desire a level of justice for their deceased family member. If the man is found guilty of the charges, he could face incarceration. He could also be subjected to a civil suit brought against him by the victim’s surviving family members. With the help of a knowledgeable New Jersey personal injury lawyer, they may be able to seek compensation for medical and final expenses as well as for loss of companionship and pain and suffering.
