Woman hit by drunk driver on sidewalk

A woman was recently ran down by a drunk driver in a swerving vehicle as she stood on the sidewalk in Rutherfield, New Jersey. She sustained serious injuries and is still in critical condition. A 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with DWI, according to the Bergen County prosecutor’s office.

The 28-year-old victim was standing on the sidewalk in East Rutherford when a vehicle swerved off the road, hitting her. The 2006 Lexus Sedan also crashed into a tree utility pole and a light post. After the auto accident, police took a blood sample as they suspected that driver of the car was intoxicated.

The woman was transported to the Hackensack University Medical Center. The driver of the car was taken into custody after the accident. He faces multiple charges that include DWI, reckless driving and other moving violations. He was also charged with DWI within 1,000 feet of a school and aggravated assault by auto.

The driver is being held at Bergen County Jail, and his bail is set at $75,000. He is scheduled to appear in East Rutherford Municipal Court next month, and it is not yet clear if he has an attorney or not.

The victim in this horrible car crash will undoubtedly pay for the man’s negligence for many years to come. Her injuries can affect her professional and personal life. Victims in cases such as this are entitled to compensation for their lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. A skilled motor vehicle attorney may be able to help those injured in car accidents to protect their rights and get compensation beyond that which is provided through insurance claims.
