Four New Jersey residents were taken to area hospitals after an early morning multi-car accident. Reports are unclear as to the reason behind the crash. Police looked to the community for any witnesses who were at the scene to help with the car accident investigation.
On Oct. 23 at around 6:45 a.m., a 22-year-old Holmdel man was driving south on Route 34 when he crossed into the oncoming lanes. According to police, the man’s car sideswiped a vehicle driving northbound. The northbound driver, a 55-year-old Long Branch man, was forced off of the highway and into the nearby woods. The Holmdel man continued on the wrong side of the road until he collided head-on with another vehicle driven by a 48-year-old Farmingdale woman. Police report that both vehicles came to rest on the opposite side of the road.
Emergency personnel transported the woman by air to Neptune’s Jersey Shore University Medical Center. She had damage to her legs and internal injuries, according to reports. The Holmdel man was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank for treatment of leg injuries. The Long Branch man and his passenger suffered injuries of the neck and back and were taken to a Holmdel hospital.
While there is no word on criminal charges in connection with the multi-car crash, the injured parties may be able to recover compensation from the wrong-way driver if the investigation determines that it was caused by negligence. Such funds could be used to cover their medical bills and the repairs to their vehicles.
