A multi-vehicle car accident in Linden on Oct. 5 resulted in injuries for seven people. The car accident happened near a gas station and included a vehicle that knocked down a pole and a gas pump.
The accident occurred at Edgar Road on Routes 1 and 9 at approximately 11 a.m. According to police, an Acura with five passengers inside was traveling south on the roadway when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car hit the curb of the road and then crashed into a utility pole. The pole toppled over as the Acura entered the gas station, striking one vehicle that was also entering the station. That impact caused the second vehicle to crash into a third vehicle that was in process of being filled with fuel. The impact also knocked a pump down and spread gasoline. An attendant at the gas station used the emergency switch to stop the fuel. The Acura came to a stop on its roof.
Emergency crews found one of the Acura’s passengers on the ground and took her to University Hospital in Newark. She is in critical condition according to police. Four occupants of the Acura received treatment at hospitalized, though their condition is not known. Two others, in different vehicles, were taken to separate hospitals. Police are continuing their investigation into the accident.
