Residents of New Jersey may be interested in a fatal car accident that occurred recently in the early morning hours of Dec. 27 on Route 80 in Hardwick Township. The auto accident was allegedly caused by a 23-year-old woman who was driving the wrong way on the highway around 3 a.m., according to a State Police spokesperson. She was allegedly driving while intoxicated. Her Honda Accord hit a Mitsubishi Gallant head-on.
The 23-year-old and the other driver suffered minor injuries, as did two passengers in the Mitsubishi. One of the passengers in the Mitsubishi, a 25-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The woman driving the Honda is facing charges for driving while intoxicated, and more charges are pending. The highway was closed for nearly three hours after the accident. Details on the specific cause of death of the deceased or of the condition of the other injured parties were not made available.
This crash is one of many nationwide in which an allegedly drunk driver travels the wrong way on the highway and collides with a vehicle traveling in the correct direction. Because of the high speeds typically involved, highway crashes can result in fatalities or severe injuries.
The negligence of drunk drivers causes countless traffic fatalities annually, and the families of victims of drunk driving accidents may often seek compensation for their loss of a loved one. This restitution could pay for medical care provided before death, as well as for funeral costs and pain and suffering. With the help of an attorney, the family of the victim and the injured parties may be able to recover damages.
