Suspected DUI driver causes five-car crash in New Jersey

A 40-year-old man from East Brunswick is said to have caused a five-car crash in East Windsor while under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred at around 2:40 p.m. on March 28 on Route 130 by the intersection with Town Center Road. The driver was behind the wheel of a black Mercedes-Benz as he headed south on Route 130 towards the left-turn lane.

Multiple cars were in the turn lane waiting for the light to turn green. The driver first struck the side of a Toyota Camry, and then he crashed into a Honda Accord. The Accord was pushed into the middle of the road where it knocked over a traffic signal fixture. The Mercedes kept moving south and striking other cars in the turn lane. After crashing into a Honda Odyssey, the Mercedes flipped over and finally came to a halt.

The Odyssey was propelled forward into an Audi A6. The driver of the Accord needed to be taken to the hospital for head and neck pain along with the driver of the Accord. The driver of the Mercedes was taken into custody following a preliminary investigation of the car wrecks, and he was charged with two counts of assault by auto in addition to several other motor vehicle offenses. The man was also charged with DUI and possession of narcotics, and his bail was set at $50,000.

Car accident victims may want compensation for their injuries. Speaking with a personal injury attorney who is familiar with obtaining compensation for victims may be a good idea for these individuals. If a person needs to take time off from work due to injuries following a crash, that person may seek compensation for medical expenses and wages lost from not working.
