On May 19, an ambulance in Lyndhurst that was rushing to the scene of a car accident ended up involved in one of its own after being struck by another vehicle. Five people were injured in the four-car crash. Fortunately, no patients were in the ambulance, as it was on its way to another accident scene.
As the ambulance crossed through Ridge Road while driving down Second Avenue, it was struck in the rear by a car driving on Ridge Road. According to an eyewitness, the impact caused the ambulance to spin around and topple onto the roof of a parked car. That car’s owner was in a nearby store when the accident occurred. Another vehicle was also hit while stopped at a red light, although media reports did not say which vehicle struck it.
Those injured included the two EMTs in the ambulance, two pedestrians waiting at the light, and the 25-year-old driver of the vehicle that crashed into the ambulance. They were all transported to a local medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries. Area residents told a local news outlet that part of the township is known for accidents.
