SUV crashes through Wendy’s, man seriously injured

An 89-year-old New Jersey man was seriously injured when an SUV struck him when it collided through a Wendy’s restaurant in Bayonne. The accident reportedly occurred on Feb. 19 at the Wendy’s located on Lefante Way. The incident occurred at around 3:12 p.m., and officials had completed their investigation and cleanup of the area by 6:15 p.m.

The accident occurred when an elderly woman driving a BMW SUV apparently accidentally accelerated, crashing 10 feet through the front door of the building. Officers indicated she was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. They stated she was apparently trying to park her vehicle, and they do not know why she suddenly accelerated.

The 89-year-old man was transported for medical treatment at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health. He reportedly required surgery and was being treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit. In addition to the elderly man, police stated that a 12-year-old boy who was also in the restaurant suffered injuries to his legs. The elderly woman has not been charged with any crime in the incident, and police reiterated they believe it was unintentional.

When a person suffers a serious injury in an accident due to the negligence of the other person, the injured person may want to file a personal injury lawsuit. Through such a lawsuit, the negligent person may be held to be civilly liable to pay damages in the case. Damages are designed to compensate those who are injured for their economic and noneconomic losses. Injured people may thus want to seek a consultation with a personal injury attorney.
