A person involved in a wrong-way crash died recently as a result of his injuries. The 22-year-old Mount Olive man was involved in an accident which took place in Sparta on a recent Tuesday night in December. When individuals are killed in car accidents caused by another party’s negligence, their loved ones are typically entitled to file a wrongful death suit.
The New Jersey man was driving in the southbound lane of Route 15 when his vehicle was struck head-on by an SUV operated by a 50-year-old woman. Reportedly, the woman was driving north in the southbound lanes. Shortly before this accident, authorities say she nearly collided with a police officer’s patrol car around 11 p.m.
The police officer was able to avoid the SUV by taking evasive action. He then turned his car around to pursue her vehicle and try to stop it. Sadly, he was too late. She crashed head-on into the man’s car a short while later. The woman was flown to a local medical center after suffering serious leg injuries.
She has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide as well as DWI. If she is convicted of these charges and the decedent’s loved ones decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit, the convictions might be used as evidence of negligence. Successfully navigated, a wrongful death claim can result in the entry of a monetary judgment for documented economic and non-economic losses. Grieving families in New Jersey who have lost loved ones in car accidents similar to this one typically choose to consult an experienced personal injury attorney in order to determine what steps may be necessary to protect their interests.
