New Jersey man faces charges in deadly, high-speed highway crash

It is just a 40-minute drive northeast from Somerville to the New Jersey home of a man facing criminal charges after a violent accident on the Grand Central Parkway. The Roselle man had apparently left a wedding celebration when he was speeding in his BMW SUV at a minimum of 76 mph in a posted 50 mph zone.

The man hit another vehicle, lost control and careened across three lanes of traffic and hit another vehicle. His BMW and that vehicle then hit the guardrail and rolled over. Two of the four passengers in his SUV were killed in the wrecks and a total of seven people were injured in the high-speed highway crashes, law enforcement officials said.

The driver that police say caused the carnage refused a breathalyzer test, according to media reports.

The two passengers killed in his vehicle were a 34-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Brooklyn. The teenager was apparently ejected from the SUV.

"A wedding celebration ended in a horrific tragedy when one of the guests - the defendant - allegedly got behind the wheel of his vehicle, drove recklessly and at a high rate of speed," District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Brown added that three people sustained serious injuries in the crashes, though the driver's wounds were considered minor.

The Roselle man faces manslaughter and reckless driving charges and the possibility of 15 years in prison if convicted.

Many others similarly accused are held financially responsible for the irreparable damage they have done to lives and families.
