Residents in New Jersey and the surrounding areas of the region know that the summer holidays and weekends are times to be extra aware of dangers on the road. However, people cannot be expected to hole up and stay home all of the time for fear that a reckless person will cause them harm so they must take the risk of being in an accident in order to live their lives. That is the choice that many people made on the recent Fourth of July weekend. Unfortunately for one family, the outcome was almost unthinkable.
As reported by the New York Post, a woman and her husband had taken their four daughters to Maryland over the holiday. Three of the daughters were teenagers and the other was only 20 years old. After the holiday, they left Ocean City and got into their family minivan to drive home to New Jersey. They never made it. While along a stretch of Route 1 in Delaware, a man driving a large pickup truck changed the course of this family’s history forever.
The man in the pickup was going the opposite direction on the road but for some reason still unknown he ended up on the opposing side of the road and ran his truck straight into the family’s minivan. No details have been given as to whether or not the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol or was distracted by his phone or another vehicle system while driving.
What is known is that the woman in the minivan is now not only a widow but childless as her four daughters and her husband all died in the crash.
