Dealing with whiplash after a rear-end car crash

When another New Jersey driver hits your vehicle from behind, you may experience whiplash, which occurs when something causes your neck to move back and forth forcefully, causing damage to neck tendons and muscles. At Lieberman, Ryan & Forrest, L.L.C., we understand that rear-end collisions are a common cause of whiplash, and we have helped many clients who experienced whiplash and other injuries due to another driver’s negligence pursue appropriate recourse following a car crash.

According to the Mayo Clinic, whiplash can range broadly in terms of severity. While, in some cases, symptoms associated with whiplash begin to subside in a matter of weeks, in more serious cases, the symptoms can last for months, years or even longer. How might you know if you suffered whiplash in a rear-end collision?

Typically, symptoms associated with whiplash appear within the first 24 hours or so following a car wreck. These symptoms might include headaches, fatigue, dizziness or neck pain that gets worse when you move. You may, too, experience tingling or pins and needles in your arms, a loss of mobility in your neck or tenderness or sharp pain in your neck, upper back or arms as a result of whiplash.

Anytime you suspect whiplash, you should schedule a visit with your doctor. You may, for example, have unknowingly suffered broken bones or damage to body tissue during your crash, so it is important that you have a doctor rule out such injuries and otherwise assess your condition.
