Workplace falls lead to many workers' compensation claims

One thing about work-related falls is that the severity of the injuries does not depend on the height of the fall. While New Jersey workers wear personal protective equipment when they work in elevated areas, no PPE can protect a worker who slips or trips and falls at ground level. Many of the claims filed for workers' compensation each year involve serious injuries suffered in preventable same-level falls.

Premises liability: New Jersey man fatally injured at ski resort

What was meant to be a ski trip in another state recently turned into a tragedy when a New Jersey man suffered a fatal injury. The 46-year-old man died on a recent Thursday in an incident that authorities ruled to be an accident. According to records, this was the first fatal chairlift incident at this resort since 2016 when a woman died after she was thrown from the lift. Following that accident, a report determined that the lift operator materially contributed to the accident, which would have been grounds for a premises liability lawsuit.

Nursing can be a dangerous profession

When you think of all the dangerous industries where workers can easily get hurt or killed carrying out their daily job duties, few people immediately list the field of health care. But the fact remains that it is very easy for a nurse or other medical professional to get badly injured on the job.

Workers' compensation eligibility not affected by OSHA findings

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently announced the outcome of an investigation into a 2019 workplace accident that caused serious injuries to an employee of a New Jersey aluminum manufacturer. Although investigators found evidence of employer negligence, their findings do not affect the eligibility of injured employees for workers' compensation benefits. The safety agency typically has six months to investigate workplace accidents, but benefits claims can proceed immediately after the accident.

Police say 2 car accidents caused by negligent teen drivers

Police in Fairfield recently encouraged New Jersey parents of teenagers with provisional licenses to have conversations about safe and responsible driving. Parents were also asked to make sure their teens comply with the legal restrictions for inexperienced drivers. Two car accidents in Fairfield that were caused by young drivers gave rise to the decision to issue the caution, although no lives were lost -- "by the grace of God," said the police spokesperson.
