Understanding New Jersey’s new distracted driving law

New Jersey drivers probably are aware of the fact that it is illegal to talk to someone on a hand-held cellphone while driving and/or to send or receive a text message. Both of these activities are considered to be “primary offenses” in New Jersey. What drivers may not be aware of, however, is that other motorists can now turn them in for texting while driving. As reported by New Jersey 101.5, a new distracted driving law went into effect on July 27, 2017. Under this law, whenever anyone sees a motorist texting while driving, the observer is asked, but not required, to turn the culprit in to local law enforcement.

What is distracted driving?

Whenever you drive on the streets, roads and highways of New Jersey, no one needs to tell you that distracted driving is a major problem today. You see evidence of it all around you, and you may be guilty of it yourself.

Fire risk recall involves BMW vehicles across the country

Recalls regularly occur for various products to protect consumers from unforeseen dangers associated with the product. It is not uncommon for a certain make or model of vehicle to be recalled within months or years of the vehicles’ purchase, due to mistakes in manufacturing causing a dangerous situation involving the vehicle. A vehicle recall has the potential to affect not only New Jersey residents, but car owners across the country.

What is aggressive driving?

When you drive around New Jersey, you may not think about your driving habits. More drivers have reported engaging in aggressive behavior, though, and it is important to understand what this behavior consists of and why it can be dangerous.

How a 'designated texter' can help drivers avoid accidents

If you haven't noticed from the public service announcements this summer, distracted driving is still a huge problem on America's roads. It is expected that injuries stemming from distracted driving accidents will exceed last year's total. Despite numerous laws banning the practice, it appears that many drivers disregard the law.

How you can help your accident case before it goes to court

When it comes to prevailing in a car accident claim, it is always helpful to have favorable facts. This commonly helps to win a case before you even get to the courtroom. Insurance companies certainly like it this way. This is probably why they want to take their time if there are any questions as to liability. Basically, if there is a chance that the other driver may be liable, the insurer wants to know about it.

New Jersey man faces charges in deadly, high-speed highway crash

It is just a 40-minute drive northeast from Somerville to the New Jersey home of a man facing criminal charges after a violent accident on the Grand Central Parkway. The Roselle man had apparently left a wedding celebration when he was speeding in his BMW SUV at a minimum of 76 mph in a posted 50 mph zone.

Truck driver shortage makes roads less safe

With summer well underway, many New Jersey residents will hit the roads with friends and family for vacation and fun in the sun. Yet it is important to understand the hazards of the highways, including trucks who can cause significant damage in the event of a collision.
